For your first appointment we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early and bring a copy of any records not sent prior to the appointment. When you arrive, we will scan copies of your records and link them to your patient’s file in our computer system. We will weigh your pet, if larger than 20 pounds, in the lobby then escort you into your exam room. If your pet weighs less than 20 pounds, we will obtain a weight once we are in an exam room. Because we practice Fear Free at our clinic, your dog will get a bandana & you cat will get a towel, both sprayed with calming pheromones.
An assistant or licensed technician will take a history on your pet and ask you questions like what food you feed or if you have noticed any limping lately. If your pet is due for diagnostic lab work your technician will get the samples they need and return your pet to you afterwards. Your pet will then be examined nose-to-tail by one of our veterinarians. If they have any concerns about your pet’s health, they will discuss it with you and help you determine how we will move forward. Estimates detailing their recommendations can be made at this time.
At the end of your appointment an assistant or technician will go over any medication or therapies to be done at home. If you have any questions, our team member will answer them to be sure you will feel comfortable taking care of your pet at home. After this you will either return to the reception area or wait in your exam room for the receptionist to get you checked out and make any re-evaluation appointments.
